Parents: Shenzi and some guy
Name: Gabbro
Gender: Male
Age: Year and a half
Physical Appearance: Gabbro is a brown-grey spotted hyena with a rather muscular build. He has a broad chest and thick neck. His spots are black and his undercoat is a pale cream color. His lower legs are black as is the end of his muzzle and his mane. He has a rather prominent chin and jaw, and his ears stick up straight. A “mask” of black fur surrounds his eyes and runs across the bridge of his nose. His eyes are vaguely green.
Personality: Gabbro is noble, honorable and upstanding to a fault. He enjoys the prospect of being a hero and jumps at every opportunity to swoop in and save the day – even at the risk of looking like an idiot or making matters worse. In essence, he’s the very stereotype of the campy superhero (only without any real powers, of course with the exception of longwinded heroic speeches). But because of his honor, he abstains from causing real harm, even when in peril. Gabbro is far too trusting for his own good. It doesn’t help that he sometime’s quite dim.
Backstory/History: Gabbro was born on the savanna after the hyena clans departed from Priderock. The little cub heard the stories of how the clan nearly had the Pridelands before Scar betrayed them. Even from a young age, he stood out amongst the clan. At first, it was because of his almost herculean strength. But as time went on, his ridiculously selfless acts began to get on the nerves of the others, especially the females who disliked the lower-ranking male for acting in such a dominant way. Gabbro grew fond of yelling “excelsior!” or “onward and upward!” before he runs off to save the day, kindly giving everyone a warning. Shenzi was frequently embarrassed by her thick-skulled son.
Determined to make a rogue out of him yet, Shenzi, Banzai, Ed and a few other hyenas took Gabbro along on a search for food. They came upon Prideland territory and let themselves in so they could steal prey. Upon realizing what they were doing, the hunky man-hyena blocked their way and explained to them why stealing was wrong. His mother, thoroughly irritated, attempted to explain to him that survival was top priority (plus it was fun to watch the Pridelanders react) but Gabbro, ever the disillusioned, continued his speech. His booming speech attracted the local residents and the hyenas were chased off for the time. Gabbro made it his ongoing goal to establish a lion-hyena alliance…it’s not working out well; but he’s persistent.
When the large hyena suddenly found himself in a place that clearly wasn’t Africa, he wondered what sort of evil trickery was afoot. Gabbro up and joined the Crystal Guard without hesitation in order to push his mind and his muscles (but mostly his muscles) to work on bringing peace and justice to the land. Excelsior!
