Parents: Bigwig and Hyzenthlay
Name: Hayseed
Gender: Female
Age: Around half a year
Physical Appearance: Hayseed is a smallish female rabbit. Her coat is reddish-brown and she has dark brown eyes. There’s a hint of a shade around her eyes but it’s barely visible. Some of the fur on the top of her head is longer than normal.
Personality: Hayseed’s rather a bit of a know-it-all. Her intentions are (usually) just, but she had a manner of playing the mentor that most find demeaning. She likes to learn, but can’t stand it when she has to listen to common misconceptions or false information and always makes an effort to correct it. Her dream is to become Captain of Owsla, but that’s generally unheard of for female rabbits. Especially because of this, she’s a bit of stickler for “equality”, making sure everyone had equal shares, even for trivial things: “an eye for an eye”.
Backstory/History:
Hayseed is one of a litter of kittens born on Watership Down to Bigwig and Hyzenthlay. She was one of the smaller but was strong enough to pull through winter that year. As she was old enough to wonder away from her mother above ground, she became fascinated with the Owsla rabbits (which were basically their police/military). She tried to hang around with them, especially given that her father, Bigwig, was Captain of the Owsla, but was more often just pushed aside. Most insisted she was too young to go out on wide patrols and the like with them, and some others didn’t feel it was a place for a doe. Bigwig was amused by her ambitions, but honestly doubted himself if she was best fit, given that she wasn’t exactly the biggest rabbit. Still undeterred, Hayseed made an effort to learn up on survival skills, mostly by asking a variety older rabbits in the warren, and by trying to apply what she’s learned. She still was not considered old enough to stray far from the down, so her real-life experience is lacking. Hayseed worked on her communication skills in the meantime, becoming a bit of a little politician among the other young rabbits. She’s known to be somewhat bossy and has a scolding voice. Some joke that that makes her a pretty good candidate for Captain of Owsla. But in reality, few have real faith in her, so Hayseed figures she’ll just have to be her own support circle.
When Hayseed woke up in the morning to find herself in a strange man-place, she made a dash for a hiding place. She was made aware of humans by scent, but they smelled unfamiliar and somehow more dangerous than the men she knew. Hayseed didn’t like her chances of trying to run back home alone and in the open, so she retreated back deeper into the buildings. The houses provided more places to hide at least, even if it was every shade of wrong to be so close to men. She realized that she might have to go against her instincts as a rabbit in order to survive. She could view the ordeal as a learning experience, but that didn’t mean she had to like it. Hayseed's goal in to get things back to their natural state.
